Advocates for a more digital open government are applauding the decision of the House and Senate this past week because they have increased two funds that promote transparency initiatives for the public. As part of a budget compromise, the e-government fund and the Federal Citizen Services Fund will see an increase in money to help promote Web-based transparency on public spending. Next.gov reports that specific e-gov projects such as Data.gov, a repository for federal data sets, and USAspending.gov, which tracks spending trends, will be the first ones to see the money. Look for the final vote for the two funds come within the next two months.
