Mexico's Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) announced that the country’s number portability (NP) system will be suspended from 30 August to 01 September to enable a database administrator change. The regulator said the suspension is a technical necessity to make the change to the new provider Mediafon de Mexico, SA, a unit of Mediafon Datapro UAB.

Mexico was the first country in Latin America to implement number portability back in 2008, since when more than 93.3 million mobile lines and 4.7 million fixed lines have been ported.
