Brazilian Fixed Telephone Lines Drop 2.52% in Year to April

Brazil had 40.48 million fixed lines in operation in April 2018, representing a reduction of 1.04 million (-2.52%) lines in twelve months, according to data from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel). In April, the fixed telephony market was practically stable, with a small increase of 6,061 (0.01%) lines compared with March. In April of this year, licensed companies had 17.16 million fixed lines, while the concession holders had 23.32 million.

Over twelve months, the licensed ones presented a slight increase of 61,666 (+ 0.36%) and the concession holders a reduction of 1.10 million (-4.53%) lines. Among licensed operators, Claro led the market with 62.84 percent (10.78 million lines), followed by Telefonica with 27.91 percent (4.78 million) and TIM with 4.35 percent (745.913). Among concession holders, Oi had 55.71 percent of the market (12.99 million) and Telefonica had 40.33 percent (9.40 million).
