Romania's telecommunications authority Ancom announced a total of 1.565 million numbers were ported between 2008, when porting was introduced, and the beginning of October. Of these, 1.123 million were mobile telephony numbers and 442,472 were fixed telephony numbers. Throughout the six years since the launch of number portability in Romania, the amount of telephone numbers transferred from their users from one network to another has constantly been on the rise.

According to the Ancom data, 2014 is the year when the most numbers were ported, namely 357,606. Therefore, 39,734 numbers were ported on average every month. The peak month since the launch of this service was July, when 55,544 numbers were ported.

Out of the total of 1.565,031 million numbers ported by 1 October, 1.123 million (72 percent) are mobile telephony numbers. The statistical data show that the highest interest in keeping their telephone numbers lies with subscription users (approximately 70 percent of the ported numbers belong to such users), while only 30 percent of those who chose to switch providers use prepaid cards.

In the mobile telephony segment, Vodafone keeps receiving the most ported numbers, namely 361,282, followed by Orange with 339,590, Telekom Romania with 305,219 and RCS&RDS with 115,736 numbers.

As regards the fixed telephony, 35 providers saw 442,472 numbers ported so far. Of these, the most numbers were ported to RCS & RDS, namely 122,285, followed by UPC Romania with 107,951, Orange with 95,473, Vodafone with 76,778 and Telekom Romania with 18,015. The greatest number of requests for porting fixed telephony numbers were registered in Bucharest and the county of Ilfov (134,951 numbers). Next in the classification are Cluj, with 28,873 ported numbers, Timis (24,234), Prahova (21,815) and Galati (20,937), these totaling more than 50 percent of all the ported fixed telephony numbers.
