Following the launch of the world's first personal data store, Mydex, the co-founders explain the principles behind volunteered personal information - and how it will benefit public organisations.

Last week marked the trial launch of the world's first personal data store for individuals, Mydex. Over the coming months, the prototype will test the practical operations of personal data stores with a view to launching a full working service next year. Partners involved in the test include The London Borough of Brent, Croydon Council and Department for Work & Pensions.

Here, William Heath and Alan Mitchell, co-founders of Mydex, explain the principles behind volunteered personal information, and how personal data stores could impact customers and companies.
