Fiji should maintain its current peaceful national security even with the new increase in security threats worldwide.

National Security Strategy Chair Esala Teleni confirmed to FBC news that with various developments in the country, it would bring about more tourists and contribute to the growth of the economy.

“It is good, sound and balanced. And I think all of us want to maintain this sort of environment here in Fiji in our developments, tourism increasing because we have a peaceful environment and we want to maintain that.”

Meanwhile, with internet access reaching many Fijians across the country now- the risks of Cyber Crime has also increased.

Teleni says Fijians have already fallen victims of Cyber Crime and it is now regarded as a major National Security threat.

“The greatest challenge in cyber-crime is that they see no boarders because it can access into your system without you knowing it. Although we are enjoying technology, the advantage of technology but at the same time it offers this challenge.”

Teleni says the threat from cyber-crime is multi-dimensional, targeting citizens, businesses, and governments.

Minister for Defense and National Security Inoke Kubuabola says government will tighten its national security to protect all Fijians.
