The law on ecological impact assessment came into force in Turkmenistan.

This law regulates the relations in the field of environmental impact assessment. It is aimed at preventing the negative impact of the planned economic and other activity on the environment and human health.

The international cooperation in the field of environmental impact assessment is carried out on the basis of agreements on cooperation in environmental protection and ecological safety of the population among Turkmenistan and foreign countries according to article 34 of the law.

Turkmenistan, ranking fourth on the largest natural gas reserves in the world, is one of the key players on the energy market in the Caspian region and Central Asia.

Turkmenistan plans to increase annual natural gas production to 250 billion cubic meters by 2030, much of which will be for export, in accordance with the oil and gas industrial development program.

Ashgabat adheres to a diversification policy of gas supply to the world markets. The pipeline route to Europe via the Caspian Sea and Azerbaijan is one of the most attractive. The Turkmen side expressed its readiness to conduct appropriate environmental impact assessment with the participation of international experts to implement this project.
