The Indian state government of Kerala has committed to introduce crime mapping in all communities to try to reduce incidents of domestic violence, said Dr M K Muneer, Minister for Panchayats and Social Justice on Monday.

Muneer said that the decision was made after a pilot project in a small coastal village, Maraikulam, revealed a high number of domestic violence incidents.

The Kerala Police currently publishes the number of reported crimes against women in each of the 21 districts. Other crime statistics, such as murder, rape, kidnapping, robbery, theft and riots, are also available on the website but do not have details on where they took place.
