ADB Assist to Kazakhstan on "Green Economy" Introduction

The Asian Development Bank provides assistance to Kazakhstan in implementing the principles of resource-saving technologies and "green economy" principles.


"Technical assistance is implemented with the assistance of the bank for the preparation of the project on the rehabilitation of centralized heating network in the city of Karaganda, which is provided in the country partnership strategy between Kazakhstan and ADB for 2012-2016," the statement of the Organizing Committee of the 47th annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank said.


The report noted that the aim of the project is to modernize the centralized heating network of Karaganda, including renewal of seven pumping stations, replacement of up to 127 kilometers of underground, overground and transit pipelines, modernization of control and metering systems, including implementation of SCADA, as well as advanced training in financial management and procurement procedures social protection, access to financing, including carbon financing and trading mechanisms of greenhouse gases quotations.


Furthermore, clean technologies and resource saving are among the priorities of the ADB. The bank pays particular attention to this area and not just funding for various projects in different countries, but also in its example demonstrates the use of "green technology". For example, the upcoming 47th annual meeting of the ADB Board of Governors to be held in Astana on May 2-5 will be conducted using the principles of "green economy."


These principles include: the use of organic materials, conducting "green activities", reducing the use of various resources. Thus, it is planned to place urns for recycling waste, to provide forum participants with organic bags, as well as to hold exhibition of domestic enterprises and investment opportunities in Kazakhstan, the exhibition of Kazakh exhibits of art and culture at the Palace of Independence in Astana, which will host the meeting.
