Kyrgyzstan: Ecotourism to Develop

Ecotourism will be promoted in Kyrgyzstan. The Director of the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) in the Kyrgyz Republic Tolkunbek Asykulov informed today at the World Forum on Snow Leopard Conservation.

According to him, the Transboundary Cooperation in North Tien Shan Mountains Biodiversity Conservation project will be implemented in 2013-2016. “Within the project we are going to formulate an integrated management system of specially protected areas in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. The project will make a contribution to climate, biodiversity and rare wild animals (snow leopard, bear and wild ram) conservation and will improve living conditions of local population and will regulate pasture management in the Kyrgyz Republic. Besides, it is aimed at promotion of ecological tourism and tourism, which is based on local communities. Walking routes will be developed, guest houses will be opened. Tourist product will be informed and promoted,” Tolkunbek Asykulov said.

He added that the Federal Ministry for Economic Development of Germany and NABU will be a contributor, NABU affiliate in the Kyrgyz Republic and some public funds of Kazakhstan will be the partners. A total sum of the project’s implementation reaches $1,135,000.

Recall that the heads and other representatives of the governments of 12 snow leopard range countries: Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, Kingdom of Bhutan, Mongolia, India, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Nepal and Kyrgyzstan are invited to forum in Bishkek on October 21-23. The representatives of international organizations and ecological movements, members of chief co-organizers delegations and sponsors are participating in the forum too. The forum was organized upon an initiative of the Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev. According to the plan, today the Global Snow Leopard Conversation Seven Years Program will be adopted and Bishkek declaration will be sighed.
