South Korea's state-run companies and other public institutes had employed nearly 13,000 young people through their internship program during the first half of this year, the finance ministry said Friday.

According to data compiled by the ministry, the country's 295 public institutes employed a combined 12,556 youth interns during the January-June period, 98 percent of the target number for this year.
