Pakistan's military has accused the Indian army of killing one of its soldiers with "unprovoked firing" across the disputed Kashmir border.
A military statement said the "ceasefire violation" occurred along the Line of Control in the Hot Spring and Jandrot sectors on Tuesday night.
"Indian troops again resorted to ceasefire violation and carried out unprovoked firing this evening at LoC in Hot Spring and Jandrot sectors from 2200 (1700 GMT) to 2300 hours (1800 GMT)," the statement said.
The local government in Pakistani Kashmir's Hajira district says Indian troops were firing at Pakistani villages "intermittently".
New Delhi is yet to respond to the incident, which follows recent deadly exchanges along the border last week, in which two Indian soldiers and two Pakistani soldiers died.
Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, has said there could be no "business as usual" with Pakistan, responding to the alleged beheading of an Indian soldier as unacceptable.
While foreign ministers on both sides have warned against escalating tensions, Indian army chief General Bikram Singh has reiterated the sense of outrage within the Indian army's ranks over the killing.
