The state of Andhra Pradesh in India is sharing its e-governance initiative, Mee Seva (meaning ‘at your service’), with other states in the country through the Central Government’s Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY).
Mee Seva was launched a year ago, and offers more than 40 government services online to citizens of Andhra Pradesh through a single portal. For example, citizens can apply for birth certificates, income certificates, retail license renewals and school registrations online through the portal.
The website also allows citizens make payments for water and electricity bills, property tax, driving license fees and traffic fines. Nearly 6 million transactions have been conducted on the Mee Seva portal.
DeitY intends to increase online transactions in other states in the country by replicating Mee Seva as a platform for service delivery. The Mee Seva cloud-based platform can be customised for other states easily due to its generic, scalable, modular and standards-based architecture which permits seamless and rapid addition of services.
During a meeting of the State IT Secretaries, the department announced that it is working closely with the government of Andhra Pradesh to obtain component-level break up of Mee Seva and assess the efforts involved in creating the front-end and back-end technology.
The department aims to demonstrate the replicable model to interested states in January.
