The government has announced a comprehensive plan to remove unnecessary power lines and communications cables from roadways to improve the urban landscape and prevent accidents.
The government on Friday made the announcement in a meeting on the people’s livelihoods chaired by Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik.
Under the plan, the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) and the Knowledge Economy Ministry will form a related policy coordination committee to establish a unified management system.
In addition, the government has decided to establish a database of unnecessary or illegally-installed telecommunication cables and power lines to achieve a comprehensive and systematic removal of the lines.
