MANILA, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine government will launch a campaign aiming at protecting and upholding the rights of women, particularly during the times of armed conflict and disasters, senior Philippine official said Saturday.
It is said that the "18-day Campaign to End Violence against Women" led by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) will kick off on Sunday.
"The 18-day campaign aims to raise awareness of the national government agencies, local government units, and the general public about gender-based violence in crisis situations," PCW chairperson Remedios Rikken said.
According to her, gender-based violence refers to any harmful act that is perpetrated against a person's will on the basis of gender differences.
The campaign is in line with the directives of Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III for the PCW to spearhead the promotion of gender equality and the implementation of the Magna Carta of Women, or known as Republic Act No. 9710.
