The law minister, Shafique Ahmed, on Monday told parliament that two tribunals would be set up soon in Dhaka and Chittagong to deal with cyber crimes.
He made the disclosure in response to a question from ruling Awami League lawmaker Ashrafunnesa Mosharraf.
The two cyber tribunals would be the first ones in the country, although the Information and Communication Technology Act 2006 was enacted on October 8, 2006 making provisions for the establishment of such tribunals.
The minister also said that the process was going on to set up 30 more tribunals in 30 districts to deal with repression on women and children, one tribunal in Dhaka for land survey appeal, seven tribunals in seven divisional headquarters for resolving disputes over restoration of vested properties, five environment tribunals in five divisional headquarters, three sessions judges courts in Khulna, Rajshahi and Sylhet and two metropolitan magistrate’s court in Barisal and Sylhet.
Increasing courts at district level was a continuous process and courts are being increased comparing the ratio of cases pending with the court in the respective districts, Shafique said.
He said the present government had appointed 330 assistant judges through the Judicial Service Commission during its tenure.
Responding to a question from Manirul Islam, the minister said the National Human Rights Commission had resolved 72 disputes out of total 76 in 2009, 166 of 206 disputes in 2010, 406 of 453 disputes in 2011 and 388 of 556 till November 2012.
