WELLINGTON, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- The defense ministers of New Zealand and Australia will discuss regional and global security issues Friday as they seek to advance military cooperation.
New Zealand Defence Minister Jonathan Coleman said he would hold the first formal talks with Australian Defence Minister Stephen Smith since the two countries signed the Australia-New Zealand Defence Relationship Review at Melbourne in January.
"We have an excellent defence relationship with Australia and this meeting helps ensure the relationship is well maintained or consolidated on a practical level," Coleman said in a statement Thursday ahead of the talks in Perth, Australia.
"We are likely to discuss regional and global security issues as well as examine avenues for practical defence co-operation. This includes increasing co-operation on sealift and maritime sustainment," he said.
