YANGON, Nov.15 (Xinhua) -- The Myanmar government has formed a six-member media publication team that is responsible for helping private journals and foreign media keep abreast with important news, state-run radio and television said Thursday.
The media publication team, headed by current Deputy Minister of President Office U Aung Thein and with Director of President Office U Nyan Tun as secretary, is tasked for publishing news related to politics, economy, security and natural disaster in the country in time, holding press briefing if necessary and issuing press statement.
It will also distribute news to local and foreign media, regional organizations, international media in time and to support and coordinate with media publication teams formed by various ministries.
Myanmar's new government reformed the 29-member provisional Myanmar Press Council on Sept. 17 before a press media law is formally enacted by parliament.
According to official figures, there are about 200 private-run journals and over 200 magazines in addition to nearly 7,000 private publishers in Myanmar.
There are also more than 20 offices of foreign news agencies in the country.
