South Korean companies’ investment in IT and communications research and development accounts for nearly one-point-five percent of the country’s gross domestic product.
According to a report from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, investment in research by South Korean IT and communications companies accounted for one-point-48 percent of the nation’s GDP, coming in third after Finland and Taiwan out of 38 countries.
Only four countries had a ratio of over one percent: South Korea, Finland, Taiwan, and Israel.
By sector, manufacturing investment by conglomerates like Samsung Electronics accounted for one-point-36 percent of South Korea’s GDP, while software and contents made up 0.13 percent.
Out of the total investment for research and development made in South Korea, 53-point-one percent was for the IT industry, leaving South Korea in fourth place after Taiwan, Finland and Greece, respectively.
