The government will raise the nation’s health insurance fees next year by one-point-six percent, the lowest increase in four years.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare convened a meeting of its committee on health and insurance policies on Thursday and decided to raise the fees and expand the scope of people who will be eligible to receive insurance benefits.
With the latest decision, people who receive insurance coverage through their employer are expected to pay around 92-thousand won in monthly insurance fees next year, up one-thousand-400 won from this year. People who have community-based health insurance are expected to pay around 79-thousand won, up one-thousand-250 won from 2012.
The government will also approve insurance coverage for partial dentures for people aged 75 or older, cleft lip and cleft palate surgery, and tuberculosis diagnosis tests.
Later next year, teeth scaling and ultrasound tests for people with serious illnesses will be gradually covered by insurance.
