PUTRAJAYA -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said Digital Malaysia has been mapped out and anchored on three key strategic thrusts to create an ecosystem which promote the pervasive use of ICT in all aspects of the economy, to connect communities globally and to interact in real time that results in increased Gross National Income, enhanced productivity and improves standard of living.

He said with plans already in place, the time has come to ensure greater inclusiveness of the programme’s stakeholders.

“Progress has been charted and I look forward to hearing updated details on the Digital Malaysia Project and initiatives today.

“What need to happen now is for us to accelerate our journey down the path that leads us to a fully realized Digital Malaysia agenda,” he said in his opening remark at the 24th MSC Malaysia Implementation Council Meeting here today.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Cabinet Ministers and Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa.
Najib also urged the digital technology industry players to move fast, since the digital economy was coming of age, and will definitely robust the nation's economy.

“2011 proved to be a milestone year for mobile commerce in Malaysia. The total spent on mobile commerce grew from RM101 million in 2010 to a phenomenal RM467 million, representing a 370 percent jump in just one year.

“Out of this, the Malaysian mobile commerce comprised about a quarter of all online shopping in 2011. By 2015, this market will grow more than seven times to hit RM3.43 billion, indicating that the nation is upwardly mobile,” he added.

Thus, Najib who is also Finance Minister said that the implication of a convergence towards digital technology in the 21st century was monumental and will involve every one of us.

According to Najib, today's meeting also focused four main areas - industry players, women, youth and SME’s - that he described as vital development areas for the country. -- BERNAMA
