SUVA, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Fijian government on Tuesday expressed regret to Daniel Urai, President of the Fiji Trades Union Congress, who was not allowed to board a flight to China earlier in the day for an International Labor Organization (ILO) meeting.
"Urai's departure from Fiji this morning was delayed by border police who were unaware of a court order that he be allowed to travel" and the government regrets any inconvenience caused, the Ministry of Information quoted a government statement as saying.
According to the statement, Urai has since left Fiji for the ILO conference in China in the afternoon.
Urai is facing charges on stirring up political violence and was allowed to travel out of the country by the Suva Magistrates Court on Monday. However, he was not allowed to board a flight to China in the morning despite having the court documents.
After being stopped at the airport, Urai complained that while he was cleared by the Immigration Department he ended up at the Border Police office. After some discussions he was allowed to fly but he had missed his flight.
