The Australian industry’s flagship FutureGov Summit is off to a flying start – with top-tier government agencies and industry partners converging at this summit this month in the nation’s capital, Canberra.
Senior government officials from Australia, Austria, New Zealand, the UK, USA, Denmark, and Bahrain are meeting at this summit – with a focus on 21st century ICT reforms at all levels of government.
Over two information-packed days, senior executives, ICT solutions providers, and industry stakeholders will discuss, debate and deliver an action plan to make the most cost-effective use of technology in government.
Among the highlights, Ann Steward, Government Chief Information Officer, Australian Government Information Management (AGIMO) will deliver a welcome address.
A ministerial panel discussion, featuring Senator Kate Lundy, explores strategies to align governments’ ICT vision with operational work and structures.
On the international front, the CIO for the Austrian Federal Government, Reinhard Posch, takes a futuristic look at the use of technology to streamline citizen services – while drawing on the experiences of the Austrian government.
Making “connected government” a reality comes up for discussion during an interactive discussion table led by the Denmark Ministry of Finance’s Head of International Cooperation, Yih-Jeou Wang.
This discussion opens up debate about making the concept of “open government” a reality. This session looks beyond the technology to business outcomes that can be leveraged to create an open government environment.

Emerging trends for bring-your-own device (BYOD) and apps in a government environment are being highlighted by the Chief Information Security Officer for Napa County, Gary Coverdale (USA). This discussion weighs the pros and cons of BYOD technology for government users.
