China has pledged to strengthen legislation on developing socialist democracy, says a white paper released Thursday by the Chinese government.
The country will improve legal institutions concerning election, self-government among people at the grassroots level and organization of state organs, according to the white paper titled The Socialist System of Laws with Chinese Characteristics released by the Information Office of the State Council.
This is to "meet the requirements of actively yet steadily advancing political reform," says the white paper.
It says China will strengthen legislation regarding administrative procedures to regulate administrative actions, and improve laws concerning audit supervision and administrative reconsideration.
China will also revise the Criminal Procedure Law, Civil Procedure Law and Administrative Procedure Law, so as to improve the procedure law system, says the white paper.
In addition, the country also plans to improve the legal system concerning the exercise of power by state organs and the punishment and prevention of corruption, in order to expand socialist democracy and standardize and supervise the exercise of power, according to the white paper.
