Armenia should be concerned with forming its own political direction. Without that, Armenia can solely be a bystander to the processes, instead of affecting them, Karabakh’s former FM and Armenian President’s former adviser Arman Melikyan stated during a press conference on Friday.
In response to the matter of Azerbaijan being elected a non-permanent member of UN Security Council, Melikyan noted that the Armenian society is making a tragedy out of this. But in his view, the tragedy is the absence of a foreign policy doctrine. The current policy is not yielding the desired result. It is necessary to change the situation, to be able to say “no,” but to do that sensibly and in a balanced manner, the political scientist maintained.
And with respect to the opportunities opened before Azerbaijan with its election, as per Melikyan, so long as Azerbaijan does not establish strategic relations with Russia, the latter will work toward maintaining the status quo. Consequently, Russia would stop all encroachments by Azerbaijan. And the Armenian side would have an additional chance to thank Russia, Arman Melikyan concluded.
