The State Immigration Department has recently launched mobile counters for foreigners to register for the Malaysia Automated Clearance System (MACS), which will result in swifter processing at checkpoints into the country.
The Malaysia Automated Clearance System was developed to speed-up immigration clearance for foreign visitors. It aims to enhance border integrity and security by using the combination of Radio Frequency Identification and biometric verification technology.
According to State Director Nasri Ishak, when the mobile counters opened on October 15, the Department received over 700 new applications for the MACS – at present, over 100,000 foreigners have registered.
“We expect the number of applicants to increase as we will set up mobile counters at five different locations until Nov 15,” he said.
The five places include the second floor inside City Square Johor Baru shopping complex, Giant Hypermarket in Tampoi, Jaya Jusco in Tebrau and Holiday Plaza.
The system is being used at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration Quarantine Complex in Bukit Chagar and at the Sultan Abu Bakar CIQ Complex in Tanjung Kupang.
