The Ministry of Information, Communications and Arts (MICA) is looking to facilitate whole-of-government efforts to leverage social media platforms in a bid to better inform, consult and engage with the Singapore public.
“The government recognises social media as a valuable platform that agencies can use to directly engage with individuals and interest groups and get more people connected on collaborative projects,” said Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister of MICA, in parliament.
He said that although more ministries already have a social media presence in the form of Facebook pages, YouTube channels or Twitter accounts and blogs, it is “not the number of social media platforms that matter, but rather the quality of the engagement process”.
“It goes beyond having fresh and updated content that is accessible and informative, to engaging in a two-way conversation,” said Ibrahim.
