Kochi, 16th Dec: The Kerala State Public Service Commission (PSC) recruited by far the largest number of people for the government in its history in the 2009-10 financial year. And, probably, the current year will see even more.
According to its annual report submitted to the Governor on Tuesday, the PSC recruited 51,213 people for various government departments and agencies in the last financial year ending March. Advice letters had been sent to these offices asking them to appoint the recruits.
The previous record for recruitment was in 2003-04 when the PSC sent advice letters for posting 37,518 people. This year, 2010-11, looks to be the record-breaker as the PSC is going in for a massive recruitment drive to fill up thousands of vacancies across a spectrum of categories in almost all departments.
The commission has recently concluded its largest recruitment drive ever—for last-grade servants (peons). More than 11 lakh people, including those holding M.Phil, master's degrees and engineering degrees applied for the peon's post.
