Vanuatu's new prime minister, Sato Kilman says the sudden change in leadership will not destabilise the country.

The previous PM, Edward Natapei was ousted after a no-confidence motion in parliament yesterday.

Mr Natapei has reportedly been in conflict with several MPs, after refusing to hand over the leadership of the Melanesian Spearhead Group to Fiji's interim Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama.

Mr Kilman has told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat program he's putting his focus on the task at hand.

"My plan is to ensure that we contiue to enjoy the economic growth in Vanuatu," he said.

"That will take a lot of doing. The government that I will lead will do its utmost best to make sure that service delivery is done and is performed to a reasonable and acceptable standard by the public service."
