Philippines: Public School Teacher Tops ICT Training |

GRADUATING at the top of an advanced ICT-integrated training program for
teachers, Faith Lalaine Lopez, 30, said she has improved her ability to
lead her students to more opportunities of fulfilling their dreams.
Lopez teaches English at Consolacion National High School in Consolacion town, northern Cebu.
In a batch of 97 teachers from the Central Visayas, Lopez emerged
valedictorian in the Global Filipino Teachers (GFT) program, a six-day
Information and Communications Technology (ICT)-integrated training
program conducted by Globe Telecommunications, in cooperation with the
Cebu-based Coalition for Better Education, to enhance classroom
teaching.
The GFT program uses the project-based learning (PBL)
approach, which involves research, discussion and exchange of ideas to
arrive at solutions to problems.
Faith’s team tackled the issue of malnutrition in the GFT sessions.
“We gathered facts. Each participant was assigned to different tasks,” she said.
She said they interviewed, made slogans, and invited speakers on the topic of malnutrition.
Faith has been applying the PBL approach in her lessons and she observed that the students learned more.
“Before, they just surf the Web without checking. Now, they also have
to look for articles that are reliable, making the activities more fun.
They do storytelling,” Lopez said.
Launched in September 2009
with teachers from Cebu, Bohol and Negros Oriental, the GFT is a
holistic teacher enhancement program focusing on ICT-enabled learning
processes.
