The Solomon Islands population has grown by 100,000 in the past 10 years, and now surpasses half a million.
The latest population figure comes with the results of Solomon Islands latest census, conducted last year.
More than 92,000 households were surveyed in the country's sixth significant census to date.
Government Statistician, Nick Gagahe, says despite hitting the half a million people mark, the population growth rate has actually slowed - from 2.8 in 1999 to 2.3.
He says the young population, with a median age of just 19.7 will have policy implications.
"Maybe an example will be on education," he said.
"The government will be in a better position to know what particular number of primary school age population, and their intention in tackling this kind of population, young population."
