Budget 2011 will continue to ensure the most conducive socio-economic environment is created through the Govern¬ment Transformation Programme (GTP) to underpin growth.
There were allocations to ensure the initiatives under the GTP were implemented, said a statement issued by the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) in the Prime Minister’s Department yesterday.
Two key strategies – intensifying human capital and enhancing the rakyat’s quality of life – are directly connected to the six Natio¬nal Key Results Areas (NKRAs).
To achieve the NKRA’s goals, allocations have been made for education, health, housing, rural development, crime prevention, and welfare for low-income households, it added.
The budget also aims to improve the livelihood of low-income households. To date, 22,753 families are no longer classified as hardcore poor.
The statistics leading to August revealed that the families were among 44,463 families earning a monthly income of below RM440 a month.
The overall crime index has declined by 16% in the first nine months of this year, the statement said, adding that RM350mil had been alloted to combat crime, including burglaries, motorcycle and car thefts, as well as promoting safe townships and voluntary patrol schemes.
The Government will set up an addi- tional 25 special courts to expedite prosecution.
“A strong socio-economic environment will form the foundation for a stronger and more sustainable economic growth for the nation,” the statement added.
