Under the A2I programme of the government, one-stop service will be in place in all upazilas to reach various services to the doorsteps of the people through information technology (IT).

Establishment Secretary Iqbal Mahmud said this while inaugurating a workshop for upazila nirbahi officers (UNO) on A2I programme at the Prime Minister Office (PMO) here today, official sources said.

He said UNOs would act as the focal point of Digital Bangladesh at the upazila level. So they must have adequate knowledge on information technology.

Twenty-three upazila nirbahi officers (UNO) were given training in the second phase on the Access to Information (A2I) programme being implemented with the financial support of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Fifty UNOs were given training on A2I on October 6, 2010.

The workshop was organized aimed at delivering the concept of A2I programme to the UNOs to enable them to understand the way of
reaching government services to the people by using information and communication technology (ICT).

UNOs were also given an idea about Union Information and Service Center and e-services programme at various tiers of the local government to expedite the ongoing Digital Bangladesh programme in a coherent manner.

During the workshop, the UNOs were given training on efficient use of email and internet services. Demonstration was also given on various case studies: online hajj service, automation of Chittagong Customs House, Bangladesh Bank, National Data Bank Project and public e-health services.

With National Project Director of the A2I programme M Nazrul Islam Khan in the chair, the function was also attended by Deputy Secretary of Cabinet Division Prashanta Kumar Roy and Policy Advisor of A2I programme Anir Chowdhury.

Nazrul Islam Khan while narrating the salient spirit of the A2I programme, said, "So far the people used to come to the government to get public services, but from now on, the government will go to the people with its services."

"An anticipated Digital Bangladesh can be implemented through
reaching the government services to the doorsteps of the common
people," he said.
