FAO said in its State of Food Insecurity in the World 2010 hunger report published on Wednesday together with the World Food Program (WFP) chronic hunger and food insecurity is the most common characteristic of a protracted crisis….” [Xinhua/Factiva]
AP adds that “…among the 22 nations [which include Afghanistan, Haiti, Iraq, Tajikistan, Somalia and Sudan], the proportion of people who are undernourished is almost three times as high as in other developing countries….Countries in protracted crisis require targeted assistance, with the focus not only on emergency relief but also on longer-term tools, such as providing school meals or implementing food-for-work programs, the report said.
