Azerbaijan's "East-West" Project to Be Presented at Cebit Bilisim Eurasia-2010

Azerbaijan's initiative to establish a transnational information superhighway "East-West" will be presented at the annual international exhibition and conference on ICT Cebit Bilisim Eurasia-2010, the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry reported.

The resolution submitted by Azerbaijan to create the information superhighway "East-West", was adopted by the UN within the UN 66th plenary meeting. The organization expressed support for the project. It aims to reduce poverty, increase economic growth. It will play the role of locomotive for the development of the region. "East-West" is intended to connect a total of 20 countries. The project will eliminate the "information gap" between the countries within the Western European and Pacific basins.

Cebit Bilisim Eurasia-2010 will run in Istanbul from Oct.6 to Oct. 10.

An Azerbaijani delegation to the event is headed by Communications and IT Minister Ali Abbasov. Azerbaijan's national pavilion reflects the latest achievements and projects realized in the field of ICT. It provides information on the projects on creation of a regional innovation zone and launch of the first national telecommunications satellite Azerspace, as well as project on the introduction of ICT in education and other areas.
In addition to the achievements of the state sector, the stands demonstrate the success of the country's private IT-companies.

The exhibition is expected to be visited by over 146,000 visitors from 79 countries. The number of participating companies is 989 from 22 countries this year. The total exhibition area reaches 120,000 square meters. Traditional sections of the exhibition are the section relating to e-government, innovation, etc. The sector of mobile and wireless broadband occupies great place in the event. The main activity of the exhibition focuses on how to attract the business circles in creating new solutions.
