(KPL) The Lao PDR will attempt to attract more foreign direct investment and official development assistance to the special economic and specific economic zones to ensure the implementation of the 7th next five-year national socio-economic development plan (2011-2015).
Held yesterday, the meeting was attended by Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, Minister of Planning and Investment, Mr. Sinlavong Khoudphaythoune, and other officials concerned.
The meeting titled a direction of special economic zone and specific economic zone,? in Vientiane Capital will last till 15 September.
The participants to the meeting also learned about an action plan for the socio-economic development plan and the 2010-2011 state budget, a way on the development of the special economic zone and specific economic zone.
At present, Malaysia, Thailand, China and Vietnam have successfully developed their special economic zones, a significant and necessary tool for developing their economies.
Realising such achievements, Laos is studying on the development of special economic zones aiming at industrialising and modernising its national economy on a comprehensive manner, which is an urgent need to determine some rural areas and develop infrastructure network in facilitation of the production and services within such zones, said Minister Sinlavong.
The minister said that the meeting aimed at understanding the direction, target, measures and even the implementation of the action plan on socio-economic development plan and 2010-2011state budget.
The meeting has disseminated the resolution of the National Assembly on approving a report on action plan for the implementation of the socio-economic development plan and 2009-2010 budget and this plan, Prime Minister’s decree on socio-economic development plan and 2010-2011state budget.
Also disseminated at the meeting, included Prime Minister’s decree on the law enforcement, the Prime Minister’s decree on state investment, a draft law on investment promotion in the special economic zone and specific economic zone.
