House of Representatives Speaker Marzuki Alie said constitutional amendment was needed to ensure the authorities of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD).
“If a state institution has unclear functions and authorities, then it will be a waste of state budget,” Marzuki told reporters on Friday.
“We have to be firm whether to dissolve any state institution whose functions are unclear.”
Marzuki expected the fifth constitutional amendment to take place by next year and underlined that the political process would not discuss the issue of presidential term of office.
“All we want is to consolidate all political institutions within the country, there is no intention at all to extend the presidential term,” he said.
Marzuki deemed extension of presidential term would only mark a setback for the country’s democracy.
