President Mohamed Nasheed Wednesday established the Local Government Authority as stipulated in article 60 of the Decentralisation Act.
The Act states that the authority shall be established to oversee and coordinate the activities of the local councils.
According to President’s Office, the President also decided that, as stated in article 62(a) of the Act, the Home Minister would be responsible for the authority.
