Nauru is again without a functional parliament, after the resignation of its second speaker less than six weeks after elections. On Tuesday Dominic Tabuna was elected as the new speaker of Nauru's 18 seat parliament, ending a nine a side deadlock, in place since elections nearly six weeks ago.
But just three days after taking office, Mr Tabuna has tendered his resignation, citing recent developments which means he no longer has a mandate to stay in the office. What those developments are has not been made public. Mr Tabuna is the second speaker appointed in Nauru since the elections. Parliament will meet again next week.
