The CVC has asked the CBI to look into the instances of corruption by Indian officials for receiving illegal payments as identified by a US report under its Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA)and anti corruption enforcement during 2008-09, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

Answering a question of Mr Gyan Prakash Pilania, Minister of State for Public Grievances and Pensions said in a written reply that the Indian Ambassador in USA had brought to the notice of the Government several instances of illegal payments to officials of India.

The report, he said, inferred that the officials belonged to Ministries of Railways, Defence, Agriculture and Cooperation, Department of Revenue and Government of Maharashtra.

In view of the improper payment to a key official in the Directorate of Plant Protection, Querantine and Storage, Faridabad by DE-Nocil, a subsidiary of Dow Chemicals, an inquiry was ordered by Department of Agriculture and Cooperation and a case was registered by the CBI in 2007.

Ministry of Defence had constituted a Board of Officers for investigating the allegations pertaining to Indian Navy. The Ministry of Railways had suspended business dealings with M/s Pioneer Friction Ltd, Kolkata and M/s Webtec, USA. A detailed inquiry had been ordered by Maharashtra Government in respect of alleged payment made by M/s Richard Morolok and Mario Covino, the Minister said.
