The estimated size of Bangladesh's next fiscal year 2010-11, beginning from July, national budget will be around 1.3 trillion taka (about 18.57 billion U.S. dollars) , which is to put special focus on power and energy sector development.
"Size of our next national budget will be around 1.3 trillion taka," Bangladeshi Finance Minister AMA Muhith said Sunday while speaking at a pre-budget discussion meeting with the country's economic reporters in capital Dhaka on Sunday.
Finance Minister Muhith said primary projections put the size of the next annual development program at around 380 billion taka, up about 25 percent over that of the current fiscal year 2009-10 ( July 2009-June 2010).
He also said the next fiscal year's budget would set a target for achieving 6.7 percent growth in GDP (gross domestic product).
The country's economic growth was estimated at 5.5 percent, lowest in the last five years, in the wake of global economic downturn during the current fiscal year's budget.
The Bangladeshi Parliament in June last year passed 1.14 trillion taka national budget for the ongoing 2009-10 fiscal year ending in June this year. (1 U.S. dollar equals 70 taka)
