In Solomon Islands, a new electoral bill has been table in Parliament, aimed at strengthening the processes involved with voter registration, polling and counting.
The Minister of Home Affairs, Peter Tom says the intention of the bill is to give the Electoral Commission powers to develop its own voter registration and to be fully responsible for the proper conduct and administration of "the elections and the entire electoral system".
But Minister Tom is quoted by Pacnews saying while the bill also highlights areas of changes in the voter registration, this will not have any effect on the voter registration exercise that is now in progress.
