Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal completed his tour to 11 subgovernorates to inspect SR 86.9 billion worth of developmental projects last week. During the tour, Prince Khaled also talked to people about their problems and listened to suggestions about possible projects.

This is the fifth year in a row the prince has been touring across the governorate.
A governorate statement said: “The prince visited all projects that have been completed or under construction.

“The visits did not include the projects like the Haramain Railway, Makkah constructions and King Abdul Aziz International Airport projects in Jeddah.”

The statement said the tour took in projects worth SR 47 billion in addition to a SR 13.5 billion power generation project in the Jeddah governorate.

It said the prince visited projects in Taif, Turbah, Al-Khorma, Renia, Qunfudah, Laith and Rabigh, where a SR 5.6 billion power station was also under construction. The prince’s tour also covered Kamil and Jamoum.

Director General of Studies and Public Relations at the Makkah Governorate Sultan Al-Dosary said the prince was keen on making field visits so that he could meet with the people and listen to their problems.

He added: “All demands made by people during his visits in the past four years have been granted. They include new schools, branches of universities, hospitals and health centers, social care centers, municipal services, roads and networks of electricity, water supply, sewage and telecommunications networks.”

Director General of Health Affairs in Makkah Khaled Zafar, discussing the achievements in the provincial health care sector following the prince’s visit, added: “Eleven new projects in the Makkah province will add 3,370 beds to hospitals next year.”

The new projects in the health sector include North Jeddah Hospital that will have 500 beds, King Fahd Medical Tower (270 beds), East Jeddah Hospital (300 beds), New Maternity and Children’s Hospital in Makkah (500 beds), King Faisal Hospital in Makkah (300 beds) and South Qunfudha Hospital (100 beds).

He added a 600-bed hospital for mental health patients in Jeddah, 500-bed general hospital in Sharaei in Makkah, a 100-bed hospital in Jamoum and a 500-bed mental health hospital in Taif will be completed in the next 30 months.

Abdul Mueen Al-Sheikh, president of Saudi Electric Company’s western region, said electrical projects currently under way or approved in the province are worth more than SR 52.8 billion.

The new projects for power generation, transmission and distribution aim to add 7,642 megawatts to the provincial grid and build up reserve for peak seasons.
