Facebook, the social networking tool, helps government departments in Dubai interact closely and more actively with thousands of members of the public, according to a Dubai Public Prosecution (DPP) official.

Facebook has become a perfect means of communication and interaction with members of the community since millions of persons use the social network daily, said Tarek Ebrahim Saif, Head of Public Communication at DPP, on Wednesday.

"Communicating with members of the society via Facebook has become an ideal tool nowadays. Hence Dubai E-Government has started investing in that tool as it helps all the departments communicate more interactively with its clientele," said Saif.

His comments came in light of announcing the top four Dubai government departments that use Facebook as a mean of communication with its clients.

The top four departments are Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Police, Dubai Chamber and DPP, consecutively, according to the December issue of Dubai E-Government's magazine Tiqaneyya Lil Jamee' [Technology for All].

"Ranking in the fourth position is a timely achievement for DPP especially that we launched our Facebook page earlier this year. Launching DPP's page on Facebook was part of our media plan," said Saif.

Azza Al Jassmi, DPP's media coordinator, said: "Dubai E-government has 33 departments registered on its e-portal. And 11 of those departments have Facebook pages. Currently we are planning to develop and introduce DPP's e-services on the Facebook page."
