Google has announced that its Google AI research centre in Africa will open later this year in Accra, Ghana, and will bring together top machine learning researchers and engineers. Jeff Dean, Senior Fellow, Google AI, and Moustapha Cisse, Staff Research Scientist and lead of Google AI Center Accra, said in a joint post that AI has great potential to positively impact the world, and more so if the world is well represented in the development of new AI technologies.

Google’s new AI center in Accra joins the list of other locations where we focus on AI, including Paris, Zurich, Tokyo, Beijing, Montreal, Toronto, Seattle, Cambridge/Boston, Tel Aviv/Haifa, New York, and our Mountain View/San Francisco headquarters.

Google has been present in Africa over the past ten years. Ultimately, 10 million Africans will benefit from Google’s digital skills training programme with 2 million people having already completed the course. The company supports 100,000 developers and over 60 tech startups through Google’s Laundpad Accelerator Africa.
