Lesotho: Chinese Embassy Hands Over State House

He added that a number of equally important projects are in the pipeline under China-Africa cooperation and include the construction of Maseru district hospital, Mpiti-Sehlabathebe road construction and the construction of Hlotse dam.
He said the new state house, which will serve the purposes of offices and residence of the Prime Minister will provide a suitable environment for well-functioning government premised on the rule of Law and to serve Basotho nation better.

He stated that the government can only discharge its mandate properly if it has the necessary tools and the requisite infrastructure including accommodation thus the gesture will fulfil that.
He further reaffirmed Lesotho's support for the One-China Policy, through which the country is optimistic that one day, the Chinese people would realise complete reunification of their territories.
Speaking at the same event, the Chinese Ambassador to Lesotho, Dr Sun Xianghua said the State House project reflects the high-level political mutual trust between the two countries, saying the state house is where state functions are held and where utmost important government policies are made.
He pointed out that during the construction of the state house, hundreds of Basotho worked shoulder by shoulder with the Chinese technicians at the site, creating a unique mutual-learning and skills- training platform for Basotho.
He also expressed believe that the new state house will be a telling monument of China-Lesotho friendship for many years and decades to come.
He further said both countries have strong bonds of cooperation in the fields of infrastructure development, trade and commerce, agriculture, public health, education and culture as well as public safety among others.
The new State House was built with the assistance of M150 million from the People's Republic of China.

Out of that amount, at least M55 million was used for building materials procured locally.
Present at the event were Ministers, Heads of Diplomatic Missions in Lesotho, Principal Secretaries and other Senior Government Officials.
