Lesotho: DC MP Sworn In as Deputy Minister

This increases the number of Deputy Ministers to ten, with the Ministry of Education and Training taking the lead as it has two Deputy Ministers.

The event follows February 09 cabinet reshuffle where three new cabinet ministers and two deputy ministers were appointed while other two cabinet ministers were released from their duties as ministers.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Mahapa said he is ready to serve the nation and to ensure that he performs to the best of his ability to respond to their needs.
He furthermore commented that he is yet to learn more about the challenges that need to be addressed by the Ministry of Education and Training. 

In another interview, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Thabo Thakalekoala said the two Deputy Ministers will work together with the Minister of Education and Training.

He noted that this will assist them to achieve the ministry's mandate as it is broad and has been neglected over years.

The present coalition government came into power following the June 03, 2017 snap elections after ousting the then second coalition government which was led by Dr Pakalitha Mosisili. 

The current coalition government consists of four political parties thus; All Basotho Convention (ABC), Alliance of Democrats (AD), Basotho National Party (BNP) and the Reformed Congress of Lesotho (RCL).
