He said it is vital for them, as coalition partners to enable commitment and ensuring that this coalition lasts for five years, noting that their plan should be to invest in building a R.E.A.L (Responsive, Effective, Accessible, Legitimate) government.

Chief Maseribane pointed out that the coalition partners will have to learn how to communicate better amongst themselves and also to the broader constituency, saying they have to acknowledge and harness the respective strengths that each partner brings to the coalition.

He said they have learned from the past coalitions operations, therefore, they intend to chart strategies towards better management for the current coalition.

Speaking in an interview, the facilitator from Transformation Initiative, Ms. Patience Hwenha said the key lesson learned from this retreat is that the coalition building was not well structured, commenting that as a result of this, coalition governments are hanging loosely due to lack of trust, cooperation and honesty.

She said there is a need for institutionalised systems as well as advices from relevant partners so that the government cannot fall on the same trap as the last coalitions.

She further noted the need for partners to engage in open and honest communication, saying dialogue process will assist them to go a long way as well as valuing each other's views.

Ms. Hwenha again said the coalition partners should implement what they gained in order to build proper procedures so as to sustain this coalition government.

In another interview, the Secretary General of the Christian Council of Lesotho (CCL), Mr. Khosi Makubakube said through this retreat their intention is to prevent repeat of past mistake where the coalition governments failed to complete their five-year terms.

He commented that this cost the country a lot of developments as the funds were used for general elections instead of being invested in developing the lives of Basotho. He added that through this initiative, they encourage Basotho especially the coalition leaders to sustain government so that they can put all their efforts in reform process.

He noted that the coalition agreement has also left out some important issues that include how they will manage conflict when it occurs in order to avoid leaving it until it is too late.

All leaders of the Coalition Government were represented at the retreat. The retreat was organised by CCL.
