Deputy Minister Manamela will also be a panellist in a discussion entitled ‘Guiding Principles for Integrated Youth Policies’.

“We have accepted the invitation from the United Nations to participate in the Global Forum on Youth Policies because it will allow South Africa a platform to share experiences with other countries in drafting policies that respond to the needs, interests and aspirations of young people,” said Deputy Minister Manamela on Sunday.

The forum aims to build a common understanding of guiding principles for integrated youth policy development and to share plans to develop a common commitment to take youth policy forward.

The Global Forum on Youth Policies will be convened by the United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, together with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the Council of Europe.  It will be attended by youth policy experts from governments and parliaments from around the globe.

The Deputy Minister will then proceed to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he will attend the African Union Youth Minister’s meeting themed ‘Building an Interface on Youth, Culture and Sport’ from 31 October – 1 November 2014.
