Information Communication Technology (ICT) has a played a huge role in Africa's socio-economic transformation so far and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

President Paul Kagame reiterated this while addressing the 19th International Telecommunication Union (ITU) plenipotentiary conference in Busan, South Korea today.

"ICTs continue to help humanity make advances in education, healthcare and ensure food security. They will give a future we owe to future generations: one that is sustainable, inclusive and secure", Kagame said.

Speaking about how ICT's have changed the way governments relate with their citizens he said, "beyond Africa, ICT is supporting openness between peoples, paving the way for real trust and greater understanding. ICT has increased communication between government and citizens,making leaders more accessible and promoting accountability".

"Everyone has played a role in this digital revolution. We have seen the immense opportunities of a connected and borderless world", Kagame concluded.

Later today, President Kagame will deliver the keynote address at the GEMTECH Awards Gala reception. The GEMTECH (Gender Equality Mainstreaming - Technology) award is an annual special achievement award for outstanding performers and role models in gender equality and technology inistituted by the ITU and UN Women. On Wednesday, he will meet with South Korean President Park Guen-hye.
